Amreli : A tragic incident unfolded in Chitrasar village of Jafrabad taluka, Amreli district, where a seven-year-old girl lost her life following a ferocious leopard attack. The incident has sparked outrage and fear among the villagers, who are now demanding immediate action to capture the animal.

The victim, identified as Chatrupa Jodhubhai Bambhaniya, was attacked by the leopard three days ago in the Wadi area. Her parents were preparing to return home after a day of cotton harvesting when the leopard struck, severely injuring the child. She was rushed to Jafrabad Hospital with critical neck injuries but succumbed to her wounds despite medical intervention.

Rising Fear Among Villagers

The incident has left the residents of Chitrasar village in a state of shock and fear. The escalating leopard threat has created an atmosphere of panic, with many villagers afraid to step out after dark. “We cannot live in constant fear for our children and ourselves. The leopard must be captured immediately,” a local resident said.

Forest Department’s Response

In response to the incident, the forest department has intensified efforts to locate and capture the leopard. Eight cages have been set up in and around the village, and seven teams of forest officials are working tirelessly to track the animal. A team of veterinarians has also been deployed to assist in the operation.

Forest department employees have been camping in the area day and night for the past three days, using all available resources to identify the leopard’s movements. However, despite their relentless efforts, the leopard remains elusive, further escalating concerns among the villagers.

Calls for Enhanced Safety Measures

The tragedy has reignited discussions around human-wildlife conflict in the region, a recurring issue in Amreli district, which is home to a significant leopard population. Villagers are urging the authorities to implement more robust measures to prevent such incidents in the future, including better monitoring of leopard activity and proactive relocation efforts.
