Gandhinagar: In a recent decision by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, Prof. Rama Shanker Dubey, the Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Gujarat (CUG), has been granted a one-year extension on his term. The Ministry’s official order, issued on Monday, affirms that Prof. Dubey will continue in his role for up to an additional year, or until a new Vice Chancellor is appointed. This extension is granted under the Central University Act, 2009, by the authority of the Hon’ble President of India, who serves as the University’s Visitor.

Dr. Sunil Kumar Sharma, the Public Relations Officer at CUG, confirmed that Prof. Dubey’s initial five-year tenure was set to conclude on November 21, 2024. However, in light of his contributions and ongoing university projects, the Ministry approved the additional term to facilitate continuity at this crucial juncture.

Prof. Dubey expressed his commitment to overseeing the university’s shift to its permanent campus. Construction at the Kundhela campus in Vadodara is nearly complete, and CUG plans to fully relocate from Gandhinagar within the extended term. This campus relocation marks a significant milestone for CUG, symbolizing a new era for the institution.

The announcement has sparked a positive response within the CUG community, with both academic and non-academic staff, as well as students, welcoming the decision and offering congratulations. Many see Prof. Dubey’s extension as an opportunity for the university to strengthen its programs and expand its initiatives, benefiting from the continuity in leadership during this transitional phase.

Prof. Dubey’s leadership has been noted for steering CUG towards academic and infrastructural growth. The relocation project aligns with the university’s vision of establishing a robust academic environment and fostering research excellence. As the institution prepares for the relocation, this extension allows Prof. Dubey to see these plans to fruition, reinforcing his long-standing goal of making CUG a center of academic distinction.

With continued support from the Ministry and the university’s governing bodies, CUG is poised to achieve these significant milestones under Prof. Dubey’s leadership. His extended term signifies both trust in his leadership and an endorsement of the direction in which he is steering the institution.
