Gujarati Diamond traders Arrested in Vietnam

Surat : Two Gujarati diamantaires were arrested at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, for attempting to smuggle diamonds worth tens of billions of VND. Over three days, authorities seized 1,078 diamonds in two separate incidents, part of a coordinated crackdown on smuggling at the airport.

The joint operation involved Tan Son Nhat International Airport Customs, the Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department, and the Economic Police Division of Ho Chi Minh City Police. The suspects, identified as Indian nationals, were allegedly bringing diamonds into Vietnam to supply high-profile local dealers.

The first seizure occurred on October 23 at 9 a.m., when authorities detained a man identified as P.S.H. He had arrived from India with 716 diamonds hidden in a wallet among his clothing and personal items. The second incident took place on October 25 at 6:30 p.m., involving another Indian national, D.A.K., who arrived from Hong Kong. During a routine luggage scan, officials detected 362 diamonds concealed in two candy containers, with real candy layered on top as a disguise.

Upon examination, the seized diamonds included both natural and synthetic stones. The estimated value of the confiscated items amounts to tens of billions of VND. Both cases have now been handed over to the Economic Police Division for further investigation.
