Adani Foundation Vaccinates 6K Cattle in Dahej
The Kamadhenu project by Adani Foundation has emerged as a beacon of hope for local dairy farmers, tirelessly working to combat HS through widespread vaccination campaigns
Dahej : In a proactive measure to safeguard the livelihoods of dairy farmers in Dahej and 20 nearby villages, the Adani Foundation has successfully administered life-saving vaccinations to over 6000 milch cattle. This initiative aims to curb the devastating impact of Hemorrhagic Septicemia (HS), a lethal bacterial disease known to cause significant economic losses due to treatment expenses, reduced milk production, and high mortality rates among affected animals.
Hemorrhagic Septicemia (HS) poses a severe threat to cattle, triggered by the bacterium Pasteurella multocida. The disease not only diminishes milk yields but also claims numerous lives within affected herds. Last year alone, Dahej witnessed the tragic loss of over 150 cattle to this infectious scourge.
The Kamadhenu project by Adani Foundation has emerged as a beacon of hope for local dairy farmers, tirelessly working to combat HS through widespread vaccination campaigns. This year, their efforts have culminated in the successful inoculation of more than 6000 dairy cattle across Dahej and its surrounding villages. The initiative not only protects vaccinated animals but also prevents the spread of HS through enhanced herd immunity.
Vaccination remains pivotal in mitigating the economic toll inflicted by HS outbreaks. By reducing the need for costly treatments and averting potential losses in milk production, these vaccinations prove both effective and economical. Moreover, they contribute to broader efforts in antimicrobial stewardship, curbing the emergence of antimicrobial resistance associated with treating bacterial infections in livestock.
The Adani Foundation’s commitment to animal welfare and community health is underscored by its singular role in executing such extensive vaccination drives in the region. Their proactive approach not only safeguards cattle but also fortifies the resilience of local dairy farming economies against the threat of infectious diseases like HS.
As HS outbreaks continue to pose challenges to livestock health globally, initiatives like those undertaken by the Adani Foundation serve as a model for proactive disease management and community-centered agricultural practices. Through ongoing vaccination efforts, they exemplify the proactive measures necessary to ensure the well-being and productivity of dairy cattle in vulnerable regions like Dahej.
