SuratHurun Research Institute’s latest release of India’s billionaire list for 2024 has brought the spotlight onto Surat, a city known for its dynamic industrial landscape. Among the billionaires with a wealth exceeding 1,000 crores, Surat’s top industrialists have made significant strides. Ashwinbhai Desai, the owner of Aether Industries, has emerged as the wealthiest individual in Surat, while several others from the city have also secured prominent positions on the national stage.

Surat, often referred to as the economic powerhouse of Gujarat, has once again proven its mettle in the Hurun India Rich List 2024. The city, renowned for its contributions to various industries, especially chemical, petrochemical, green energy, and diamond jewellery, is home to several billionaires who have significantly bolstered their wealth over the past year.

Ashwinbhai Desai: Leading Surat’s Billionaires At the forefront of Surat’s billionaires is Ashwinbhai Desai, the owner of Aether Industries, a key player in the chemical and petrochemical manufacturing sector. With a net worth of ₹10,700 crores, Desai has secured the 268th position on the national billionaire list, making him the wealthiest individual in Surat. His company, Aether Industries, headquartered in Sachin GIDC, Surat, has been a significant contributor to the city’s industrial growth, particularly in the chemical sector.

Farooq Ghulambhaii Patel: A Green Energy Leader Following closely behind is Farooq Ghulambhai Patel, the owner of KP Group, a leader in the green energy sector. Patel has been ranked as the second richest person in Surat with a wealth of ₹9,700 crores, placing him at the 288th position nationally. KP Group’s pioneering efforts in green energy have not only contributed to Patel’s personal fortune but have also positioned Surat as a key player in India’s renewable energy market.

Other Prominent Billionaires of Surat 

Surat’s financial services sector is also well-represented on the Hurun India Rich List. Neeraj Choksi, the owner of N J India Investments, along with his partner Jignesh Desai from Navsari, each boast a wealth of ₹9,600 crores. This wealth positions them as the third richest individuals in Surat and the 292nd richest in India.

In the diamond jewellery sector, Babubhai Lakhani, the owner of Kiran Gems, ranks fourth in Surat with a net worth of ₹7,400 crores, placing him 371st on the national list. Govindbhai Laljibhai Dholakia, the owner of SRK Exports, follows closely with a wealth of ₹6,100 crores, securing the 449th spot nationally and fifth in Surat.

Further down the list, Jayantilal Jariwala, the owner of Color Tax Industries, ranks sixth in Surat and 505th nationally with a wealth of ₹5,300 crores. Laljibhai Tulsibh Patel of Dharmanandan Diamonds, with a fortune of ₹3,600 crores, is the eighth wealthiest in Surat and ranks 683rd in India. Meanwhile, Vashrambhai Bhurabhai Narola of SRK Exports and Tulsibhai Dholaki of Hari Krishna Exports, each with a wealth of ₹3,100 crores, share the 770th position nationally and ninth in Surat.

Lastly, Anand Sureshbhai Desai, the owner of Anupam Rasayan, is ranked tenth in Surat and 871st in India with a wealth of ₹2,600 crores.
