Ahmedabad : A depression originating over the coastal regions of Odisha has set its course towards Gujarat, prompting the Meteorological Department to issue alerts across various districts. Today, south Gujarat braces under an orange alert while east central and parts of Saurashtra face a yellow alert, anticipating heavy rainfall and thundershowers.

As the depression progresses westward, the Meteorological Department has raised alarms across Gujarat, forecasting substantial rains and adverse weather conditions. In response to the approaching weather system, an orange alert has been declared for districts in south Gujarat, while east central Gujarat and certain areas of Saurashtra have been placed under a yellow alert. The early morning forecast indicates a likelihood of moderate to heavy rainfall with accompanying thundershowers in several districts.

Among the districts expected to experience significant precipitation are Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Mahisagar, Panchmahal, Dahod, Vadodara, Chotaudepur, Bharuch, Narmada, Surat, Tapi, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, as well as Daman and Dadra Nagar Haveli. Concurrently, lighter rainfall is predicted for Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Patan, Mehsana, Kheda, Anand, Surendranagar, Botad, Amreli, and Bhavnagar.

Ahmedabad, Gujarat’s largest city, woke up to cloudy skies and intermittent rainfall this morning, marking a stark contrast from yesterday’s scorching heat. Yesterday, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 34.5 degrees Celsius, nearly two degrees above normal. The onset of drizzles and overcast conditions today is expected to bring relief from the recent heatwave, although residents should prepare for increased humidity if rain ceases by afternoon.

Meteorological Department scientist Ramashray Yadav highlighted that September typically sees an average rainfall of 4.9 inches in Ahmedabad. However, due to the influence of the active low-pressure system, the city may experience above-average rainfall over the next ten days. This weather pattern suggests a slight cooling effect, with temperatures potentially lower than usual for this time of year. The forecast indicates scattered showers throughout September, particularly moderate to heavy rainfall from the 3rd to the 9th, with intermittent heavier spells.

Looking ahead, residents and authorities are advised to stay updated with weather bulletins as the depression progresses and affects various parts of Gujarat. Precautionary measures are urged in light of the expected weather conditions, ensuring safety and readiness in response to potential disruptions caused by heavy rainfall and associated phenomena.
