AHMEDABAD,GUJARAT : The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has rejected the appeal for interim relief to reopen six schools that have yet to get Building Use (BU) authorization and fire No Objection Certificates. This judgment follows the deadly Rajkot game zone fire tragedy, which spurred increased inquiries into fire safety and compliance with BU laws across Gujarat, including Ahmedabad.

Following the Rajkot fire, authorities have increased examination of fire safety measures, BU permits, and fire NOCs. This heightened surveillance in Ahmedabad has exposed a spate of infractions, prompting the AMC to seal multiple facilities, including schools.

As the new academic year approached, there was a growing clamor for the reopening of these closed institutions through interim relief. However, the AMC has taken a hard line, refusing to reopen any school until it has completely complied with BU and fire safety rules.

AMC officials have stated that no interim relief will be offered to the locked schools in Ahmedabad. They have stated that the schools will remain closed until the required BU approvals and fire NOCs are secured. Six schools were sealed for failing to satisfy the required safety standards.

The Rajkot fire disaster acted as a wake-up call for both the AMC and the fire department, forcing a thorough investigation into fire safety throughout the city. The AMC has inspected a total of 1,517 units. Of these, 222 have been sealed because to noncompliance with safety rules, including numerous schools.

This thorough inspection process is part of a larger effort to guarantee that all Ahmedabad buildings meet stringent safety standards, ultimately averting future deaths. The AMC’s decision to refuse temporary relief demonstrates its commitment to public safety and regulatory compliance.

To guarantee the safety of their pupils and staff, the impacted schools must expedite their attempts to get the appropriate BU approvals and fire NOCs. Until then, the AMC’s decision holds intact, reflecting the city’s zero-tolerance policy for safety infractions.
