Ahmedabad : A complaint has been filed at the Ahmedabad airport police station alleging the theft of gold worth Rs 33 lakh during its air cargo shipment from Ahmedabad to Patna. The police suspect the theft occurred somewhere between the two airport cargo facilities and have launched an investigation based on CCTV footage.

“The theft is likely to have taken place between Ahmedabad Aircargo and Patna Aircargo,” a police spokesperson stated. “We have begun a thorough investigation based on CCTV footage and are not ruling out the possibility of involvement from Air Cargo or airline staff.”

Jagdishbhai Darji, a branch manager at a logistics company in Ahmedabad’s Gota area, reported the missing shipment. His company specializes in transporting valuables, including gold and silver jewelry, both locally and across state lines, often utilizing air cargo services.

“Four months ago, a jewelry store owner from our Rajkot branch sent Rs 33 lakh worth of gold to Ahmedabad,” Darji explained. “The parcel was intended for Patna and was shipped via Indigo Airlines from the Ahmedabad airport cargo facility. However, it never reached its destination.”

Darji’s company pursued inquiries with Indigo Airlines and the cargo department but found no leads regarding the missing parcel. With the suspicion of theft arising between the departure and arrival airports, Darji filed a complaint, prompting the airport police to launch their investigation.

The possibility of insider involvement is a concerning aspect of this case. “We are examining the possibility that staff members from either Air Cargo or the airline company may be involved in the theft,” the police spokesperson revealed.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are determined to recover the missing gold and apprehend those responsible. This incident highlights the need for stricter security measures within air cargo operations to prevent such occurrences in the future.
