Vadodara : A horrific accident on the Vadodara-Ahmedabad Expressway claimed the lives of all ten passengers in a car on Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred near Nadiad when the car, a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, collided with a stationary tanker truck parked on the expressway.

The Ertiga, travelling from Vadodara to Ahmedabad, rammed into the back of the tanker. The impact was severe, with eight occupants tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Two other passengers sustained critical injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, these two individuals also succumbed to their injuries, bringing the final death toll to ten.

An eyewitness, Mukesh Vaghela, described the scene: “I heard a loud noise while I was near the highway and rushed to the spot. I saw the car rammed into the back of the tanker. We called for help and a crane was used to pull the car out. Sadly, eight people were already dead, and two were seriously injured.”

Investigation reveals that the tanker was parked on the roadside due to a technical malfunction.  Kheda district police chief and collector reached the accident site promptly. Rajesh Gadhia, Superintendent of Police for Kheda, confirmed, “The tanker developed a fault and was parked on the side of the road.  The Ertiga car, travelling from Vadodara to Ahmedabad, then rammed into the stationary tanker.  Eight people died on the spot, while two died during treatment at the hospital.” The tanker itself was reportedly travelling from Pune to Jammu.

Authorities have been able to identify seven of the deceased. They include Yogeshbhai Narendrabhai Panchal from Ahmedabad, Surendra Singh Rawat, a driver from Rajasthan, Neelkumar Mukeshkumar Bhojani, Jayshree Mistry, Amit Solanki, Shahbuddin Ansari, and Neil Bhojwani.

“The accident involved a collision between an Ertiga and a tanker,” stated Kheda district collector Amit Prakash Yadav. “Eight people died on the spot, and two died while being transported to the hospital. We have identified seven deceased so far, and efforts are ongoing to identify the remaining three. The ten victims appear to be from different locations in Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan. Identification has been based on belongings and recovered mobile phones.  The families of the identified deceased have been informed,” he added.
