Kolkata Man Endangers Lives After Smoking on Air India Express Flight to Surat

Surat : Surat Police have registered a complaint against a 23-year-old passenger travelling on an Air India Express flight from Delhi to Surat. Kostav Satyajit Biswas, a resident of West Bengal, is accused of smoking a cigarette in the aircraft’s washroom, putting the lives of all onboard at risk.

Despite clear regulations prohibiting flammable materials on flights, Biswas reportedly boarded the plane (flight I51569) on April 10th with both cigarettes and a matchbox. Shortly after takeoff from Delhi, Biswas allegedly entered the airplane lavatory and lit a cigarette.

Another passenger became suspicious after Biswas spent an extended period in the restroom. Upon notifying a crew member, the staff member approached the lavatory and knocked. When Biswas opened the door, thick smoke and a strong cigarette odor filled the aisle. Confronted by the crew, Biswas reportedly confessed to smoking inside the bathroom.

Upon landing at Surat International Airport, the crew member informed Air India Express ground staff about the incident. The airline staff subsequently filed a police complaint against Biswas at Dumas police station. The complaint alleges that Biswas endangered the lives of passengers by smoking in the airplane bathroom.

The Surat Police have registered a case against Biswas, and investigations are currently ongoing.
