Lok Sabha Election 2024 : GJEPC Offers Support to IIJS Tritiya Exhibitors Amid Election Code of Conduct Challenges

Surat : The Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) is extending a helping hand to exhibitors participating in the India International Jewellery Show (IIJS) Tritiya, as they navigate potential hurdles posed by the Achar Sanhita, or Election Model Code of Conduct during the Lok Sabha Election 2024. Sabyasachi Ray, Executive Director of GJEPC, sheds light on the council’s strategies to assist exhibitors during this critical period.

Amidst the bustling preparations for the India International Jewellery Show (IIJS) Tritiya, the Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) is gearing up to provide essential support to exhibitors facing challenges associated with the Achar Sanhita, or Election Model Code of Conduct. Sabyasachi Ray, Executive Director of GJEPC, outlines the council’s proactive measures to ensure a smooth experience for participants amidst the upcoming elections.

The Achar Sanhita, often referred to as the Model Code of Conduct, constitutes a crucial set of guidelines mandated by the Election Commission of India to uphold the integrity of electoral processes. In essence, it aims to regulate the conduct of political parties and candidates during elections to prevent any unfair practices that may influence voters. While primarily aimed at political activities, its enforcement can have implications for various sectors, including the gem and jewellery industry.

Given the significance of the gem and jewellery sector, which contributes substantially to India’s GDP and employment, GJEPC recognizes the importance of ensuring minimal disruption to business operations during the election period. As such, the council has embarked on a series of initiatives to assist IIJS Tritiya exhibitors in navigating potential challenges arising from the implementation of the Achar Sanhita.

In anticipation of the heightened scrutiny on goods movement during elections, particularly concerning bullion, GJEPC has engaged in dialogue with relevant authorities and stakeholders to establish Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) tailored to the needs of exhibitors. These efforts aim to facilitate seamless transportation of goods while ensuring compliance with legal requirements.

To facilitate the smooth transfer of goods to the exhibition venue and back, GJEPC has coordinated with election authorities and government departments across various states. Through proactive engagement with officials and the issuance of necessary permissions and documentation, the council aims to preemptively address any logistical hurdles exhibitors may encounter.

To further bolster exhibitors’ confidence and preparedness, GJEPC has conducted meetings with clearing and forwarding agents to streamline logistics processes. Additionally, a comprehensive advisory detailing essential guidelines for transporting goods has been disseminated to all exhibitors.

Moreover, GJEPC has established a dedicated task force comprising officials from across regions to swiftly address any issues that may arise during the transportation of goods. The task force is equipped to liaise with relevant authorities and intervene promptly to resolve challenges, thereby minimizing disruptions to business operations.
