Gandhinagar : Amidst heightened concerns over maritime security, Additional Director General KR Suresh, PTM, TM, Coast Guard Commander Western Seaboard, arrived in Gandhinagar on Thursday, to conduct a comprehensive review of the Indian Coast Guard’s (ICG) operational readiness and infrastructure progress in the North West Region.

The visit assumes significance in the wake of recent developments, including a significant drug bust in the Arabian Sea and growing concerns over maritime threats. Commander Suresh, who oversees the Indian Coast Guard’s charter along the entire Western Seaboard from Gujarat to Kerala, including Lakshadweep & Minicoy Islands, is focusing on strengthening the coastal defense mechanisms.

During his visit, Inspector General AK Harbola, TM, Commander of Coast Guard Region (North West), provided a detailed briefing to the Seaboard Commander on the latest advancements in operational capabilities and infrastructure developments. The meeting also included discussions on strategies to enhance coordination and efficiency in safeguarding India’s maritime interests.

In a high-level review meeting chaired by the Flag Officer, senior officers of the region presented updates on ongoing operations, infrastructure projects, and challenges faced by the Coast Guard in the region. The discussions aimed to address critical issues and streamline efforts to bolster maritime security along the Western Seaboard.

Furthermore, Commander Suresh took the opportunity to interact with officers, enlisted personnel, and civilians at the Regional Headquarters. This interaction provided him with firsthand insights into the operational dynamics and ground-level challenges encountered by the Coast Guard personnel in their day-to-day duties.

The visit highlights  the Indian Coast Guard’s commitment to maintaining a robust security apparatus along the country’s vast coastline. With evolving threats and challenges in the maritime domain, such reviews and interactions play a crucial role in ensuring the readiness and effectiveness of the Coast Guard in safeguarding India’s maritime interests.
