Ahmedabad : Building on the momentum of Prime Minister Narendra  Modi’s initiative, which led to the declaration of 2023 as the ‘International Millennium Year’ by the United Nations, the state government of Gujarat is embarking on a special program aimed at promoting millets. With the Department of Agriculture, Farmers Welfare, and Cooperation at the helm, the ‘Millet Festival 2024’ is set to take place from March 1 to March 3 across eight municipalities in the state.

Named ‘Millet Mahotsav-2024’, the festival’s centerpiece will be located at the picturesque Sabarmati Riverfront Ground in Ahmedabad. From 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. each day, attendees will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a vibrant celebration of millets, showcasing their nutritional value, cultural significance, and culinary versatility.

The Millet Festival promises an array of attractions, including themed stalls showcasing millet-based products, handicrafts, and culinary delights. Attendees can explore a live food zone dedicated to millet-based cuisines and enjoy nightly cultural performances, adding a touch of festivity to the event.

Adhering to the ethos of inclusivity, entry to the ‘Millet Mahotsav-2024’ is free and open to the public, ensuring that individuals from all walks of life can partake in the festivities and learn about the nutritional benefits of millets.

The festival in Ahmedabad will commence with an inauguration ceremony graced by Health Minister Rishikeshbhai Patel. Joining him will be esteemed dignitaries including Ahmedabad City Mayor  Pratibha Jain, District Panchayat President  Kanchanbehan Vaghela, Ahmedabad Panchayat Member  Kiritbhai Solanki, District Collector  Praveena D.K., and DDO  Videh Khare, underscoring the significance of the event in promoting health, culture, and sustainable agriculture.
