Ahmedabad : Anirudh Kejriwal, an executive of a private company has stirred controversy by alleging caste discrimination at a residential society in Gandhinagar, Gujarat’s capital. Taking to Twitter, Kejriwal recounted his distressing experience in the state, highlighting the stark reality of caste-based prejudice in what he once perceived as “Gandhi’s Gujarat.”

In a series of tweets from his official handle, Anirudh Kejriwal shared his disillusionment with the promise of Gujarat’s development trajectory, which had initially attracted him to the state over an opportunity in Singapore. Expressing his aspirations for a future filled with hope and growth, Kejriwal revealed his decision to purchase a home in Gujarat, drawn by the grand vision outlined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the state government, particularly regarding GIFT City. However, his dreams were shattered when he encountered unexpected challenges upon attempting to move into his newly acquired residence.

After living in Mumbai for years, I decided to move to Gujarat, choosing it over an opportunity in Singapore. I was captivated by the promise of GIFT City and the grand vision our PM and government laid out for us. It inspired me so much that I took a big step and decided to buy… https://t.co/3HNmc9BiWN

Kejriwal detailed how he was prevented from occupying his home not because of any personal transgression but solely due to his non-Gujarati background. He lamented being subjected to blatant caste discrimination, emphasizing that despite his excitement and optimism, he found himself excluded and marginalized in a place he had chosen with hope. The ordeal took a distressing turn when Kejriwal claimed to have been threatened by approximately 30 individuals within the society, further exacerbating his anguish and disillusionment.

Sources close to the matter have revealed that the residents of the Gandhinagar society, where Kejriwal encountered discrimination, are purportedly staunch supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). It is speculated that Kejriwal’s surname, ‘Kejriwal’, which he shares with Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi and a prominent political figure, may have fueled animosity and opposition towards him within the community.

The allegations made by Kejriwal have ignited a firestorm of debate and condemnation, prompting calls for accountability and redressal from various quarters. Many have expressed shock and dismay at the blatant display of casteism in a state that prides itself on its rich cultural heritage and inclusive ethos. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the entrenched prejudices that continue to plague Indian society, despite claims of progress and modernization.
