Gujarat : Woman arrested for concealing gold paste worth Rs 49 lakh in sanitary pad at Ahmedabad Airport

Ahmedabad : A female tourist travelling from Abu Dhabi was detained at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport for smuggling gold paste, the third such incidence in 10 days. According to customs officers, the lady was discovered as a suspected smuggler after carefully concealing 736.36 grammes of 24 carat gold – worth a stunning 49 lakhs – within a sanitary pad.

“Acting on specific intelligence, we had shortlisted the passenger for thorough checks upon arrival,” disclosed a customs officer, expanding on the procedure. “During inspection, the gold paste, cleverly concealed within a sanitary pad, was detected.”

With this big seizure, fears about a developing gold smuggling enterprise operating via Ahmedabad’s airport have grown. Just this week, alert customs agents discovered two distinct cases of gold smuggling, one via body concealing and the other with specially constructed belts.

The arrested lady is presently being interrogated extensively, with investigators attempting to untangle the complicated web of this covert organisation. Questions loom large:

“How much commission was she promised for this delivery?” the official inquired, describing the main topics of inquiry. “Who was going to get the gold? Has she previously utilised this route for smuggling?

A thorough investigation is underway to address these critical issues and disrupt the network that facilitates this illicit behaviour. The current wave of gold smuggling attempts highlights the need for increased vigilance and effective airport security procedures to combat such complicated smuggling strategies.

“This seizure serves as a stark reminder of the ingenuity employed by smugglers,” the official said, emphasising the significance of proactive information collection and rigorous passenger profiling. “We remain committed to cracking down on these illegal activities and safeguarding our economic borders.”
