Mehsana : The current contest for the Kadi Agriculture Produce Market Committee (Kadi-APMC) in Gujarat has ignited a compelling political struggle for BJP, centered around Nitin Patel, the prominent Patidar leader from Mehsana and former Deputy Chief Minister within the BJP ranks. This electoral engagement marks a significant departure from conventional political trajectories, drawing attention and speculation across the state.

In a departure from customary political conduct, Nitin Patel’s decision to engage in the APMC elections has amplified the intrigue. A longstanding figure within the BJP, Patel’s roots in grassroots politics remain steadfast, a trait acknowledged by a farmer leader from Kadi who noted Patel’s continued commitment to his political origins.

Gujarat : Political Tug-of-War Unfolds as Nitin Patel Contests Kadi APMC Elections

Despite his prior role as the director of the Kadi APMC, Patel had not previously contested for the chairman or deputy chairman positions, maintaining an unchallenged status within the committee. However, the current elections pose a unique challenge as the 10 seats of farmers’ representative attract a substantial pool of 25 candidates in the fray, predominantly from the ruling party but representing diverse factions.

Patel’s perspective on the situation resonates politically, hinting at the emergence of intra-party divisions leading to the unforeseen elections. Contrary to this, statements from Kadi BJP MLA Karsan Solanki refute any notion of a detrimental influence on the APMC, emphasizing that the majority of candidates hail from the party itself, albeit with a novel strategy to introduce fresh faces.

“The fact is out of 25 candidates, only two candidates are from Congress, the rest are from the party, but this time party had decided to field fresh faces, no-repetition formula is implemented in this elections also, party has given mandate to 10 candidates only. unfortunately, Nitin Patel is unhappy with the party’s decision of no repetition and so he along with his supporters are contesting” said Karsan Solanki, Kadi BJP MLA.

The divergence in opinions becomes pronounced as Patel expresses discontentment with the party’s decision to avoid candidate repetition, prompting him and his supporters to contest independently. This divergence, a rarity within party ranks, presents a pivotal moment with potential consequences for Patel’s political trajectory.

The stakes are high: if Patel’s supporters secure all 10 seats, it could challenge the party’s endorsed strategy significantly. Conversely, a loss could dent Patel’s political standing, a prospect recognized by an unnamed party leader wary of the implications. The unfolding electoral dynamics hold the potential to reshape local political landscapes, marking an unprecedented chapter in Patel’s political journey.
