Surat police bust Bihar Telegram drug network

Surat :  In a significant breakthrough, the Surat police have unveiled a clandestine drug network orchestrated by the notorious Subodh Singh, who is currently incarcerated in Beur Jail in Nalanda district, Bihar. This illicit operation was exposed through communications on the Telegram app, leading to the apprehension of a drug peddler en route to deliver approximately 487 grams of narcotics to a local suspect, Manoj Rai.

Acting on crucial information, the police swung into action, intercepting the drug peddler, identified as Ujjval Kumar Sharma, near the Bharat Petrol pump in Udhana. In his possession, they discovered a cache of narcotic drugs weighing 487 grams, with an estimated street value of Rs 48 lakh.

Officials from the Surat Crime Branch revealed that Subodh Singh, hailing from Bihar’s Nalanda District, is lodged in Beur Jail on charges related to theft and robbery. Despite his incarceration, Subodh Singh was found to be running an extensive drug smuggling operation, facilitated through the encrypted communications of the Telegram app. He had been in contact with Manoj Rai, a resident of Surat.

Subodh Singh directed Ujjval Kumar Sharma from Bihar to travel to Surat and deliver the consignment of drugs, which was subsequently intended for distribution through Manoj Rai’s network in the city. Ujjval Kumar Sharma undertook the journey to Surat, arriving at Udhana railway station via train.

The police acted swiftly, setting up surveillance based on this vital information. As a result of their operation, the quantity of drugs was seized, preventing the distribution of illegal narcotics within the city.

Ujjval Kumar Sharma, a 26-year-old resident of the Dulhan police station area in Patna district, Bihar, was taken into custody. Alongside the narcotics, the police also confiscated orange, green, and purple colored pills weighing 29.950 grams, as well as a mobile phone.
