Surat: An impressive and commendable example of medical innovation is taking place in a hospital in Surat, Gujarat. Despite being located on the beautiful grounds of the Swami Narayan Temple on Ashwani Kumar Road, the hospital operated by the Swaminarayan Trust does not have a cashier’s desk. The answer is simple and remarkable: the clinic provides free treatment to all patients, regardless of their ability to pay or social standing, and regardless of their religious beliefs.

The Swaminarayan Trust-run hospital opened in the middle of Surat in 2022, serving as a shining example of caring for others. The hospital’s adventure started with an outpatient department (OPD), but it has since evolved to provide complete medical services, including laboratory testing, in its selfless mission to serve humanity.

The trustees of the Swami Narayan Temple Trust were the impetus behind this endeavour. They saw worshippers at the temple who were in poor condition but couldn’t afford the expensive medical care or lab tests they needed. This insight led to the decision to establish a medical facility on temple property.

Over the last year, our hospital has made a difference in the lives of 21,758 people by providing them with free medical treatment. Laboratory tests have been performed on 8,646 patients, and 2,541 patients have been seen by the hospital’s team of highly trained MD physicians.

The trustees of the Swami Narayan Temple have made it their mission to provide free outpatient care and laboratory testing from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and again from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm every day of the year. As a result of this initiative, residents of the Ashwani Kumar Road neighbourhood who come from low-income families now have access to high-quality medical treatment.

The President of the Swami Narayan Temple Trust, Dhanji Rakholia, emphasises the dedication to diversity and tolerance. He claims that thanks to benefactors, people of all backgrounds and beliefs have equal access to medical records at no cost. The hospital plans to soon add Sonography and X-ray services, significantly expanding its range of offerings. Additional outpatient care centres and research facilities are scheduled to open in the Mota Varachha neighbourhood.

The Swaminarayan Trust continues its caring healthcare programme even after this. Over the last four years, the Swami Narayan Temple in Rampura has provided a free OPD service. This extensive work guarantees that the spirit of selfless service and medical care reaches the greatest number of people possible, inspiring communities all over the world with its example of kindness.
