Surat : The Khedut Samaj Gujarat (KSG), a prominent organization championing the rights of farmers in Gujarat, has raised its voice against the controversial demolition of its office at Purshottam Farmers campus in Jahangirpura. The KSG office-bearers have demanded a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident, alleging that the Surat police, acting under the influence of influential politicians, carried out the demolition in an effort to stifle the farmers’ voice.

In a bid to seek justice and uphold their rights, KSG office-bearers submitted a memorandum to the Surat district collector, urging a fair investigation into the demolition of their office in Jahangirpura. The incident has raised serious concerns about the influence of politics on the administration and the treatment of farmers’ organizations.

The farmers maintain that the KSG office had been allotted to them on a long-term lease, supported by an official rent agreement with the Purshottam Farmers society. However, a change in leadership within the Purshottam Farmers society resulted in harassment directed at the KSG office-bearers, who were pressured to vacate the property.

Not willing to relent, the KSG filed a case against the Purshottam Farmers society in the Surat Civil Court, seeking legal resolution to the dispute. The matter was thus subjudice and pending a court decision.

Despite the ongoing legal proceedings, allegations have surfaced that Purshottam Farmers authorities, with the backing of politicians from the ruling party, exerted immense pressure on the Surat police to detain KSG office-bearers and carry out the demolition of their office.

Jayesh Patel, President of KSG, expressed his concerns, stating, “KSG is the umbrella organization fighting for justice on behalf of the farmers’ community in Gujarat. We have spearheaded numerous agitations against the government in the past. The actions of Purshottam Farmers and the Surat police, disregarding the Surat Civil Court, by demolishing the KSG office are deeply troubling. We are demanding a fair investigation by the district collector to restore the rights of KSG and the farmers.”

Darshan Naik, General Secretary of GPCC and a prominent farmer leader, echoed these sentiments, saying, “The Surat police, acting as a puppet under political pressure, demolished the KSG office. This matter is currently before the Surat Civil Court and is subjudice. Despite this, the police chose to disregard the court’s jurisdiction and carry out the demolition.”
