Habitat for Humanity India will host an Urban Dialogue on Affordable Housing Policy Solutions

New Delhi : The premier housing nonprofit in India, Habitat for Humanity India, will host a “Urban Dialogue” on “Policy Solutions for Adequate Housing to Build Inclusive and Resilient Urban Settlements” soon. The event, scheduled for the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi on September 1st, 2023, will bring together stakeholders, policymakers, and specialists in an endeavour to create a forum for in-depth discourse and creative problem-solving around urban housing.

The Urban Dialogue’s major objective is to foster inclusive urban housing via the creation of novel policy solutions that are in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The conference’s goal is to find best practises that may be extended to a larger scale and replicated by participants in order to close policy gaps. The conference also aims to improve the quality of life for urban populations by laying the groundwork for holistic interventions that target health, livelihood, and well-being by bringing together a wide range of stakeholders. The ultimate goal of the Urban Dialogue is to help India’s growing urban areas adapt by creating communities that are sustainable, resilient, and egalitarian.

With the help of locals, volunteers, and other organisations, Habitat India has been constructing houses of promise for the past four decades. Because to our work, many people now have the fortitude, stability, and independence that come with living in a safe environment. According to James Samuel, National Director (Interim), Habitat for Humanity India, “The Urban Dialogue is a testament to our shared dedication of addressing one of the most pressing issues of our time—housing.”

Among the goals of the Urban Dialogue is the creation of a policy brief outlining key solutions to the identified urban housing challenges, as well as the identification of best practises that can be widely scaled and shared, and the formation of a consortium to explore collaborations among stakeholders.

UN-HABITAT, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and Sphere India are all working together to put on the Urban Dialogue. At the 9th Asia Pacific Housing Forum, held in Suwon, South Korea, on October 26–27, 2023, Habitat for Humanity International will hold a Regional Urban Dialogue. ‘enabling sustainable and affordable homes in informal settlements’ is the subject of the 9th Asia Pacific homes Forum.
