Ahmedabad : The United World School of Law (UWSL), Karnavati University organized its flagship event, UWSL International Moot Court Competition 2023 from April 6-8, at the varsity campus in Uvarsad Gandhinagar. The International Moot Court Competition 2023 is being held on the theme of Environmental Law and International Human Rights Law. Hon’ble Justice Shri Ravi Tripathi, chairperson, Gujarat State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) along with Honourable Justice Niral Mehta, Judge, High Court of Gujarat, remained present at the event. Karnavati University is a state private university dedicated to excellence in teaching and is focussed on interdisciplinary learning.

Dr P Lakshmi, Dean, UWSL, remained present during the ceremony. Welcoming the guests and students, she said, “The International Moot Court Competition 2023 is not just an academic exercise, but a vital tool for shaping the next generation of legal professionals.”

The international moot court competition is a medium to not just impart knowledge about the law to students beyond classroom learning but also hone their knowhow in practical situations. It also helped students hone their oratory skills. Students from across top ranking law colleges and institutions from across the country including states like Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan, among others, in addition to students from universities in Nepal and Bangladesh, participated in the competition.

During his inaugural address, Honourable Justice Shri Ravi Tripathi, chairperson, Gujarat State Human Rights Commission (SHRC), enlightened the students about issues of environmental law and human rights law. He spoke at length about Article 21 of the Indian Constitution. Honourable Justice Tripathi also suggested that students must take an oath, “I will not tolerate any violation of human rights by anyone, anywhere.”

Legal experts from some 24 different law firms will evaluate the preliminary, quarter-final, and semi-final rounds of the event as esteemed judges, making it a great networking opportunity for students at Karnavati University.

During his inaugural address, Honourable Justice Shri Niral R Mehta, judge at the Gujarat High Court, elaborated on the importance of hardwork in the legal profession. “In the legal profession, there is no alternative to hard work. Confidence is always a necessity in this case. In the end, it doesn’t matter whether you win or lose. What matters is how you conduct the case,” he said.
