Bengaluru : Athulya Senior Care and Pallium India have collaborated to introduce palliative care as a new service in the organised elder care sector in South India, making history in the process and addressing the growing demand for specialised palliative care in India. With the country’s ageing population and the rising incidence of severe health-related suffering, our cooperation has the potential to significantly improve the quality of life for the elderly and their loved ones. The inauguration of this service is particularly timely given the fact that just 2% of India’s population of 1.2 billion has access to Palliative Care.

At a press conference held today, Mr Srinivasan G, Founder & CEO of Athulya Senior Care, said, “Palliative care is expected to become a critical sector for senior care centres in India, and we are proud to be a comprehensive senior care centre in South India to offer Palliative Care services for seniors.” We believe this is just the beginning of our journey to improve senior care in the country through our cooperation with Pallium India, through which we hope to deliver the best possible care to our patients and their families.

Dr. Sreedevi Warrier, Head of Pallium India’s Education and Skill development division, provided some insight into the organization’s position in the relationship by noting, “At Pallium India, our mission is to make Palliative Care available to everyone who need it. We are teaching the clinical staff of Athulya Senior Care to deliver the greatest quality care to the elderly in South India through our partnership with them. Together, we will teach the medical and nursing staff at all Athulya Senior Care centres to deliver Palliative Care to our geriatric patients. Essential areas covered by such instruction include symptom and pain management, terminal care, and effective communication.

It is advised that palliative care begin at the time of diagnosis, and it is not just for those who are at the end of their lives. In addition, it seeks to alleviate the emotional and mental anguish experienced by people who are terminally ill and their loved ones. There is a significant problem, especially for middle-class families, with the lack of access to palliative care services in healthcare facilities, especially in the private sector.

To that end, Mr. Srinivasan remarked, “We are committed to expanding our reach and providing this service to older residents in other places in the near future. We shall keep working towards our vision of a world where location and economics are no barriers to receiving quality Palliative Care.

Providing high-quality care to India’s elderly population is a top priority for Athulya Senior Care, and the inauguration of their Palliative Care Service is a big step in the right direction.
