YouTube gets an Indian-American professional Neal Mohan as its new CEO

New Delhi : Neal Mohan, an Indian-American professional is all set to take over as the new CEO of YouTube. Susan Wojcicki, the present CEO of YouTube announced that she is stepping down from her role after nine long years as the head of global online video-sharing and social media platform and she will be replaced by Mohan.

A former senior vice president for ad products at Google, Wojcicki, 54, mentioned in her blog post that she wants to focus on family, health, and personal projects. “Today, after nearly 25  years here, I have decided to step back from my role as the head of YouTube” Wojcicki wrote in an email to her YouTube employees.

“The time is right for me, and I feel able to do this because we have an incredible leadership team in place at YouTube,” she said.

“I’ve been with YouTube for nine years, and when I first started working there, one of my top priorities was to assemble a stellar management team. One of those leaders, Neal Mohan, is taking over as YouTube’s new senior vice president and CEO “Wojcicki wrote to share the news that she would be replaced at the helm of the massive and widely used video hosting platform.

By 2007, when Google bought DoubleClick, Mohan was already working for the company. As of 2015, he has been serving as YouTube’s Chief Product Officer.

According to Wojcicki, “since then, he has set up a top-notch product and UX team, played pivotal roles in the launch of some of our biggest products, including YouTube TV, YouTube Music, and Premium and Shorts, and led our Trust and Safety team, ensuring that YouTube lives up to its responsibility as a global platform.”

She praised his “wonderful sense” for the company, its products, its creator and user communities, and its staff.

Wojcicki is one of the original members of Google, which was founded by a pair of Stanford grad students in the year 1993.

“We’ll call them Larry and Sergey. Despite the fact that the company had zero customers and no revenue, I decided to join because I saw the incredible potential in what they were building. It would be a fantastic choice for me to make “her words

She would move into an advisory role at Google and Alphabet after serving as CEO of YouTube since 2014. YouTube’s advertising revenue grew to USD 28.8 billion last year thanks to her leadership.
