Ahmedabad : For the first time, a Vande Bharat Express train with 20 coaches will run on August 9 between Ahmedabad and Mumbai. The Western Railway will operate this trial train without any passengers on board to evaluate the feasibility of the extended coach configuration. This marks a significant step in enhancing rail connectivity and capacity on one of India’s busiest routes.

Currently, two Vande Bharat Express trains operate between Ahmedabad and Mumbai, each consisting of 16 coaches. These trains have garnered nearly 100 percent occupancy, underscoring the high demand for fast and efficient rail travel between these two major cities. In response to this demand, the Research Designs & Standards Organization (RDSO) has given the green signal to the Western Railway to conduct a trial run of a 20-coach Vande Bharat Express train on this route.

The trial run is designed to ensure that the extended train meets all operational requirements and safety standards. The train will travel at a speed of 130 kmph, and several critical checks and preparations will be carried out. The C&W team will perform detailed inspections, and the train will require certification for operations at the specified speed. Additionally, arrangements for seamless passage, green signaling, and the appointment of an operational officer will be essential components of the trial.

The introduction of a 20-coach Vande Bharat Express aims to accommodate more passengers and enhance the overall efficiency of the service. Given the nearly full occupancy of the existing 16-coach trains, the extended train could provide a much-needed boost in capacity. The trial run will also help identify any potential challenges and areas for improvement before the train is put into regular service.

The trial run will involve comprehensive coordination, including RPF deployments at crossings to ensure safety and smooth operations. The results of this trial will play a crucial role in determining the future of 20-coach Vande Bharat Express trains on the Ahmedabad-Mumbai route and potentially other routes across the country.
