Surat | Gujarat — A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded in Surat’s Antroli village when a 13-year-old girl allegedly driven into severe emotional distress by ongoing family disputes died after jumping from the terrace of her residential building. The shocking incident, captured on CCTV cameras, has left residents stunned and raised serious concerns about the mental impact of domestic conflicts on children.

The deceased, identified as Maya Chaudhary, was a Class 8 student and daughter of Mangilal Jethalal Chaudhary, a native of Rajasthan’s Phalodi district currently residing in Shiv Palace Complex of Ramnagar Society in Antroli village under Kadodara GIDC police limits.

According to preliminary police investigations, Maya had reportedly been under immense mental stress due to persistent tensions and disputes within the family. The incident occurred around 9:30 pm on May 25. She sustained critical injuries after jumping from the terrace and succumbed during treatment at around 6:30 pm the following day.

The CCTV footage from the society revealed disturbing visuals of the teenager pacing restlessly on the rooftop in a visibly distressed state. Two alert residents noticed her behaviour and rushed upstairs in an attempt to stop her and calm her down.

However, before they could reach her, Maya allegedly panicked after noticing them approaching and jumped from the rooftop wall within seconds.

“The neighbours tried their best to save her, but everything happened too quickly,” a local resident said. “Nobody imagined the child would take such an extreme step.”

The girl suffered severe head and body injuries and collapsed unconscious in a pool of blood. Residents immediately rushed her to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared her dead before treatment could begin.

The victim’s grieving mother broke down outside the hospital, while shocked relatives and neighbours gathered as news of the incident spread through the locality.

Kadodara GIDC police reached the scene soon after receiving information and have seized CCTV footage as part of the investigation. Officials said the exact circumstances behind the tragedy are being probed, though family conflict is emerging as a major factor.

Police are currently questioning family members and examining all angles related to the case.
