Rajkot : Union Minister Parshottam Rupala, vying for victory in the Rajkot Lok Sabha constituency, has shifted focus to garnering support from the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community amidst mounting opposition stemming from his recent remarks. Rupala, who is facing criticism from the Kshatriya community over contentious statements, made a strategic appearance at an OBC convention in Rajkot, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Ramnavmi.

Addressing the OBC gathering, Rupala expressed confidence in securing electoral success with the backing of the OBC electorate, likening the political battle to a war that he is poised to conquer with the support of the OBC “army.”

Drawing parallels from the epic Ramayana, Rupala invoked the narrative of Lord Hanuman rallying diverse communities to confront adversity. He underlined the significance of unity and collective strength, portraying the OBC community as instrumental in achieving triumph against formidable challenges.

In a bid to resonate with the audience, Rupala extolled the contributions of herdsmen, aligning them with the OBC demographic. He lauded the Central Government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for its initiatives aimed at safeguarding the interests of those involved in animal husbandry, emphasizing the protection of various domestic animal species.

Highlighting the government’s proactive measures, Rupala elucidated on the ambitious cattle vaccination program, amounting to Rs. 15,000 crore, aimed at fortifying livestock against diseases. He compared the vaccination drive to the COVID-19 inoculation campaign, drawing parallels to Prime Minister Modi’s leadership and commitment to public welfare.

Rupala further underscored the government’s initiatives in healthcare accessibility, referencing the Ayushman card as a transformative tool akin to an ATM card, facilitating subsidized treatment at private hospitals. He accentuated the government’s efforts in extending healthcare provisions to rural areas, exemplified by the introduction of animal ambulances, colloquially referred to as “Modi Gadi.”

Amidst the fervor of the electoral campaign, Rupala’s outreach to the OBC constituency assumes significance, aiming to consolidate support amidst the backdrop of controversy. The Rajkot Lok Sabha candidate’s strategic maneuver underscores the pivotal role of community outreach in electoral politics, particularly in navigating through turbulent waters.

While Rupala faces challenges stemming from discontent within the Kshatriya community, his concerted efforts to rally OBC support exemplify a tactical pivot aimed at securing a formidable electoral mandate. As the political landscape in Rajkot evolves, Rupala’s overtures to the OBC electorate underscore the dynamic nature of electoral strategies in the pursuit of victory.
