The Vice President of India inaugurates Shrimad Rajchandra Memorial in Mumbai
Great saint Shrimad Rajchandraji’s legacy carved in stone; City receives an inspiring new mural & community space
Mumbai : On the auspicious occasion of Kartik Purnima, – the 156th Birth Anniversary of the renowned Indian saint Shrimad Rajchandraji was celebrated in a ceremony at the Royal Opera House in Mumbai after the grand unveiling of Shrimad Rajchandra Memorial and the naming of the adjoining Shrimad Rajchandraji Marg.
The event was graced by the presence of Pujya Gurudevshri Rakeshji, Founder of Shrimad Rajchandra Mission Dharampur along with Shri Jagdeep Dhankar- Hon. Vice President of India, Shri Ramesh Bais- Hon. Governor of Maharashtra, Shri Mangal Prabhat Lodha- Hon. Cabinet Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Vivek Phansalkar- Police Commissioner of Mumbai, Shri Ashok Kumar Misra, General Manager , Western Railway and many other esteemed dignitaries
‘Shrimad Rajchandra Memorial’ consists of a majestic mural paying tribute to Shrimad Rajchandraji’s life and the profound impact that it has had on the people who came in His association, as well as His contribution to the nation. The memorial also extends into a landscaped promenade showcasing public art, cultural & moral depictions and play areas, a linear garden, a reflexology path, yoga plaza, botanical garden which will bring wellness and cheer to the local community.
Honored as the spiritual guide of Mahatma Gandhi, Shrimad Rajchandraji had a tremendous and formative influence on the Father of the Nation. They first met in Mumbai in 1891, when Gandhiji returned from England as a young barrister. Shrimadji’s adherence to truth, compassion and non-violence in every walk of life, crystallized as the fundamental tenets of Gandhism, which played a significant role in the Indian independence movement.
The memorial highlights the values propounded by Shrimadji and will serve as a long- lasting memory of these virtues that have formed a significant part of our spiritual and cultural heritage.
In the ceremony, the Hon’ble Vice President was honored with the ‘Janakalyan Hitaishi’ award by the revered hands of Pujya Gurudevshri Rakeshji in recognition of his invaluable contribution in social upliftment.
Speaking on this occasion Hon’ble Vice President said “Shrimad Rajchandra memorial is enlightening in itself. Such was the greatness of Shrimad Rajchandraji, that He has inspired both the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. India is the nerve centre of spirituality and rich culture of over 5000 years and it is on account of spiritual titans like Shrimadji that we are sustaining it.”
“This legacy of Shrimadji is carried forward by Pujya Gurudevshri Rakeshji, who is full of sublimity, emanates light and is changing lives of people for the better. The scale of the Mission is such that it is mitigating suffering of the people and taking care of their health.”

On the occasion, Shrimad Rajchandra Mission Dharampur dedicated two Mega Multispecialty Medical Camps to Gadchiroli District IN Maharashtra as well as in Jhunjhunu district IN Rajasthan which is the Hon. Vice President’s hometown too.
Shrimad Rajchandraji’s teachings and benevolence transformed numerous lives during His time in Mumbai . He left an enduring legacy of spirituality and selfless service that continues to enrich lives even over 135 years after His presence in the city. The memorial will therefore serve as a community space for local residents and will be an inspiration to citizens and passers- by to walk the path illuminated by Shrimadji.
