Dengue
Surat (Gujarat) [India]: Surat has witnessed a significant rise in water-borne diseases such as dengue, malaria, typhoid, and viral fever due to the unfavorable weather conditions prevailing for the last week.

The Surat Municipal Corporation’s (SMC) health department officials, who are on the run due to the increase in the dengue and malaria cases in the city, stated that the Covid-19 cases too have registered an increase post-Ganesha visharjan festival.

Official sources said about 27 dengue and 95 malaria cases have been registered in the last week. Last year during the monsoon season, about 63 dengue and 115 malaria cases were reported.

The health department has formed various teams of sanitary inspectors and health workers in various municipal zones across the city. About 500 employees of the health department have been deployed in the exercise to find the mosquito breeding spots in the residential, commercial, and open plots across the city.

Dr. Ashish Naik, deputy municipal commissioner (health and hospital) said, “Apart from Malaria and Dengue, the Covid-19 cases have risen significantly in the last one-week p ost-Ganesha visharjan festival. Tens of thousands of people participated in the immersion procession and at the immersion points, resulting in the rapid spread of the coronavirus”

“It is always better for the people to take precautionary doses to protect them against the Covid-19 virus” added Dr. Naik.
