Surat : In the wake of ever-evolving fashion dynamics in the textiles and garment sectors, industry leaders Surat underscored the pressing need for technology upgradation and innovation to align with the trend of fast fashion.

The pivotal role of technological advancements in fabric comfort and design adaptation took center stage at the seminar themed ‘Future Ready 5F: Gujarat’s Textile Vision for a Developed India,’ orchestrated by the Gujarat Government and the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI).

Held as a precursor to the forthcoming 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024 at the Platinum Hall in Sarsana, the seminar served as a platform for industry luminaries to deliberate on the imperative shift toward technology-centric approaches in the textile realm.

A panel discussion themed ‘Weaving Tradition and Technology’ delved into the crux of technological transformation within the textile and apparel sectors. Anjani Prasad, Managing Director of Archroma India, emphasized the need for substantial investments in cutting-edge technology and innovation to keep pace with the rapidly evolving fashion trends, both domestically and internationally.

The panel boasted eminent figures including SGCCI President Ramesh Vaghasia, former SGCCI President Ashish Gujarati, Senior Director and Center Head of Nasscom Gandhinagar Amit Saluja, Archroma India MD Anjani Prasad, Director of Himson Group of Industries Pratik R. Bachkaniwala, and University of Central Florida Assistant Professor Dr. Chait Rendu, who joined remotely. Suryadev Mukherjee, Senior Consultant of Egerzi Textile Organization, adeptly moderated the discussion.

Vaghasia reiterated the industry’s need to embrace advanced technology to foster global competitiveness. He highlighted the multifaceted impact of technology on employment, emphasizing that each technological stride presents new avenues for job creation and efficiency enhancement in product manufacturing.

Gujarati emphasized the installation of high-speed weaving machines in Surat, underscoring the urgency of skill development programs for workers. He advocated government-sponsored training initiatives in collaboration with machine suppliers to empower the workforce with necessary competencies.

Saluja championed the integration of digital technology to surmount production challenges, stressing the significance of digital literacy among middle management and workers within textile units. He elucidated how training programs on digitalization augment productivity and boost machine efficiency through data utilization.
