Surat :  Darshan Naik, a prominent social activist, farmer, and co-operative leader in Surat, is facing a disturbing wave of death threats from unidentified individuals who seek to silence his unwavering commitment to championing people’s issues. Naik, who has dedicated the past two decades to advocating for the concerns of the common people, has recently been targeted with menacing calls, warning him of dire consequences and potential harm.

Naik’s extensive work as a responsible leader in the realms of social welfare, farming, and co-operatives, particularly in South Gujarat and Surat district, has garnered him attention and respect among local communities. He is known for his vocal criticism of government policies and his tireless efforts to raise issues affecting the broader population.

This isn’t the first time that Darshan Naik has been subjected to threats and intimidation. In 2010, when he contested for the Sayan panchayat seat, his house was attacked late at night, underscoring the perils that often accompany involvement in local politics. Similar incidents occurred during the Kathor panchayat election in 2015, and in the year 2020-21, when he ran for the Nani Naroli seat, there was an attempt to run a car over him. This dangerous trend continued in the last assembly election in 2022.

Despite these persistent threats and acts of violence, Naik remains undeterred, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to the people of Surat and South Gujarat. “My public life is an open book. We all have to die one day, but I will fight for people’s issues until the last breath of my life,” Naik declared, reaffirming his dedication to his mission.

He went on to say, “As I know my well-wishers, I am also well aware of who my enemies are. I am not aware of who has backstabbed how, who wants to backstab. I have proofs, and they are in the right place. I am a man of the people, the voice of the common people. If anything happens to me or any untoward incident occurs, my proofs will speak for me.”
