Surat | Gujarat — In a shocking case of campus violence, a Class 12 student of Seth Dhanjisha Rustamji Umrigar School in Umara area in Surat was brutally attacked with an iron rod by a Class 11 student, just 100 meters from the school premises. The incident has sent shockwaves through the city, reviving painful memories of the violent episode at Seventh Day School in Ahmedabad and raising urgent questions over student safety in educational institutions.
According to eyewitnesses, the clash between the students began as a minor dispute but escalated after school hours. “The Class 11 student lay in wait outside and suddenly struck the senior with a rod on the head. The boy collapsed instantly,” said a local resident who rushed the injured to the hospital. Doctors confirmed that the victim sustained severe head injuries and remains under critical observation.
Parents Storm School With CT Scan Report and Rod
The incident triggered high drama when the victim’s parents, visibly shaken, stormed into the school premises holding their son’s CT scan report in one hand and the iron rod used in the assault in the other. In a heated confrontation, they demanded accountability from the school’s principal and trustee. “This is not just a fight. This is an attempt to kill. How can such violence happen right outside the school gate?” the father of the victim said.
Other parents soon gathered in large numbers, voicing their anger against what they described as repeated negligence by the school administration. “If our children are not safe even within and around the school premises, where else are they safe? We send them to study, not to fight for their lives,” an irate mother shouted outside the school gates.
Security System Under Scrutiny
The uproar has forced the school administration and local police to launch an investigation into the matter. While the school has promised disciplinary action against the attacker, parents are demanding nothing short of immediate suspension and a review of the entire security system.
“This is not an isolated case. Schools need to wake up to the fact that student violence is becoming alarmingly frequent. They must strengthen surveillance, increase staff vigilance, and ensure counseling for students before it is too late,” said child rights activist Meera Shah, calling for systemic reforms.
Community Demands Strict Action
The incident has rekindled fears about rising student aggression in Gujarat schools. With memories of the Ahmedabad school violence still fresh, parents and education experts are urging authorities to take strict legal action against the accused student and ensure safety protocols are enforced in all educational campuses.
Police have confirmed that they have been informed and are probing the case. “We are taking statements from witnesses and will act as per law. No violence among minors can be tolerated,” a police official told reporters.
