The arrest was made on charges of illegally selling an intoxicated syrup, ‘Rexon T,’ without the prescription of a doctor.

The law enforcement authorities, in coordination with the Food and Drugs Department, launched a raid on June 26 as part of the “No Drugs in Surat City” campaign, coinciding with the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The raid specifically targeted Sana Medical and General Store, owned and operated by Irfan Khan Pathan, located in the Limbayat area of Surat.

The medical store owned by Irfan Pathan, a resident of Mahaprabhu Nagar in Mithikhadi, Limbayat, was found to be in possession of approximately 61 large and small bottles of the illicit syrup.

Law enforcement authorities have registered a complaint against Irfan Khan Pathan for the violation of The Drugs and Cosmetic Act rules. The charges against him stem from his involvement in the unauthorized sale of Rexon T syrup, which is a serious offense under the established regulations.

Rexon Amb Syrup is generally used for wet cough only. It helps in loosening up the mucus so that it can be removed easily through coughing. However, the syrup is used as intoxicating syrup by scores of youngsters.

It is noteworthy that Irfan Khan Pathan has been an active member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and holds a close association with BJP’s Limbayat MLA, Sangeeta Patil, and other party members. He is also a relative of Babbo Shaikh, the BJP’s Minority Cell General Secretary.

The arrest of a prominent BJP leader in connection with the illegal sale of an intoxicated syrup has sent shockwaves through the local political landscape. This incident highlights the importance of stringent measures to combat drug abuse and illicit trafficking, emphasizing the need for strict adherence to laws governing the sale and distribution of pharmaceutical substances.

Law enforcement agencies and regulatory bodies are determined to crack down on such illegal activities and ensure the safety and well-being of the citizens. The investigation into Irfan Khan Pathan’s case will proceed as per the established legal procedures, with the appropriate authorities seeking to bring the guilty parties to justice.
