Gone are the days of plain, colorful kites. This year, the skies of Surat will be adorned with vibrant depictions of the Ayodhya Ram Mandir, its majestic arches reaching for the heavens. Alongside these divine symbols, kites bearing the portraits of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath are also finding eager buyers, a testament to the political and religious significance of the occasion.
“Kite lovers in Surat have a penchant for flying kites with their chosen designs and pictures,” says Sanjay Patel, a seasoned kite dealer in Adajan. “This year, the buzz is all about the Ayodhya Ram Temple, especially with the consecration ceremony just around the corner. People are also asking for kites with PM Modi and Yogi Adityanath alongside the temple, adding a touch of political fervor to the celebration.”
Catering to this fervent demand, kite makers have gone the extra mile. A seven-foot-tall behemoth of a kite showcasing the Ram Mandir, with Lord Rama himself standing tall with his bow, has become the talk of the town. Priced at a staggering Rs. 1,500, this masterpiece is reserved for the professional kite fliers, promising to be a showstopper in the aerial battle.
The excitement isn’t dampened even by a 15% increase in kite prices this year. Kite enthusiasts are willing to pay the premium to be a part of this unique celebration, to witness their faith and patriotism take flight in the vibrant hues of the Uttrayan sky.
“The Ayodhya Ram Mandir, a symbol of faith and unity, will not only grace the earth but also soar high above, carried aloft by the dreams and aspirations of the people” said Rajesh Sondarva, a kite maker in Surat.
