Surat : Surat city police have apprehended a 41-year-old peddler with approximately 13 kilograms of high-purity Afghani Charas, valued at an estimated Rs 6.50 crore. The arrest took place in Damka village, Choriyasi, Surat, sending shockwaves through the underworld of drug trafficking in the region.

The accused, identified as Jitendra Jagdish Patel, 41, a resident of Dhor Falia in Rajagri village, Choriyasi taluka of Surat, was taken into custody while he was transporting the contraband on his CBZ Extreme motorcycle.

During the course of his interrogation, Patel disclosed that he stumbled upon around 13 packets of the illegal substance approximately two months ago, near the seashore in Rajagri village, Hazira. Upon opening one of the packets, he discovered high-quality charas. Subsequently, he buried the cache in the ground, believing that he could later retrieve and profit from it.

Jitendra Jagdish Patel embarked on a mission to relocate the hidden contraband to a more secure location. However, someone had tipped off the police about his intentions. As Patel was en route to Rajagri village to retrieve the stash, law enforcement officers intercepted and apprehended him near Damka village.

Police sources have revealed that just last week, two other individuals were arrested with a significant quantity of high-purity Afghani charas, valued at Rs 4 crore. Both suspects remain in police custody as the investigation unfolds. This recent incident marks the second case involving Afghani charas in the Hazira area.

Authorities have been on high alert for illegal activities in the coastal villages of Hazira and Choriyasi talukas, as the region appears to have become a hotspot for drug trafficking operations. Law enforcement agencies are intensifying their efforts to crack down on such nefarious activities and ensure the safety and security of the area’s residents.
