Surat : In a swift turn of events, the 12 bank accounts belonging to leading diamond companies in Surat, which were earlier frozen as a result of instructions from police authorities in Maharashtra, Telangana, and Kerala, have been reactivated.

The Surat Police Commissioner, Ajay Kumar Tomar, took immediate action upon receiving directions from Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi, ensuring that the accounts were operationalized without delay. This proactive response came as a relief to the diamond industry, particularly as the freezing of these accounts had caused disruptions during the holiday season.

Surat, renowned as the world’s largest diamond cutting and polishing hub, was jolted by the unexpected freeze on approximately 27 prominent diamond companies’ bank accounts. The sudden halt in financial transactions sent shockwaves through the industry, leaving businesses grappling with uncertainty.

In a display of agile governance, Surat Police Commissioner Ajay Kumar Tomar and Additional Police Commissioner Sharad Singhal rallied their teams to work swiftly. Their joint efforts led to the thawing of the frozen accounts, restoring normalcy to the diamond firms’ financial operations.

Dinesh Navadia, a prominent leader within the diamond industry, expressed heartfelt gratitude towards the Surat police. He stated, “We are deeply thankful to the Surat police for their prompt action in resolving this situation. The reopening of the frozen accounts has provided a sense of relief to the diamond businesses, allowing them to continue their operations smoothly.”

The freezing of bank accounts had been prompted by cyber crime complaints reported in Telangana and Kerala. This chain of events underscores the increasing challenges posed by cyber threats to the business landscape. The ability of the Surat police to efficiently address the issue and restore normalcy reflects their commitment to safeguarding the interests of the local industries.

The Surat Police Commissioner said in a telephonic message that he has taken action to send letters to the police of Maharashtra, Kerala and Telangana regarding the activation of the bank accounts of the diamond companies.
