Surat Police Commissioner parades around 1,000 offenders before Diwali to deter crime

Surat :  Surat Police Commissioner Ajay Tomar orchestrated a remarkable initiative by organizing a parade of over 1,000 offenders involved in serious crimes registered across 36 police stations in the city. The event took place at the Police Parade Grounds at Athwalines on Tuesday.

The motive behind this parade was the city police’s unwavering commitment to prevent any untoward incidents during the ongoing Diwali festivities. With past events serving as a stark reminder, the Surat City Police paraded approximately 1,000 accused individuals involved in severe crimes, registered at different police stations, aiming to proactively address potential threats.

Efforts were made to gather comprehensive information regarding the accused, including their current residence, occupation, and other pertinent details. Moreover, Surat City Police Commissioner Ajay Kumar Tomar personally provided special guidance to the accused, emphasizing the importance of departing from a life of crime and embracing a more righteous path.

Commissioner Tomar’s initiative seeks not only to curb crime in Surat but also to guide those involved in criminal activities onto a positive trajectory. One of the accused, Akash Bhamre, previously implicated in 35 chain snatchings, expressed remorse for his past actions, highlighting the adverse consequences that accompany a life of crime. Bhamre acknowledged the distress caused to his family and stressed his commitment to rectifying his mistakes, gradually steering towards the right path.

“The initiative represents a proactive approach to address crime in the city, emphasizing the importance of rehabilitation and redirection for individuals involved in criminal activities. As Surat prepares for the Diwali celebrations, the city’s law enforcement is taking innovative steps to ensure a safer and more secure environment for all residents” said a police officer.
