Surat : A major fire engulfed the Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Limited’s (DGVCL) Udhana office during the early hours of Monday morning. Fortunately, due to the office’s closure at the time, no injuries were reported in the incident.

According to sources within the Surat Municipal Corporation’s (SMC) fire and emergency department, the fire erupted around 3:30 am within the godown premises of the DGVCL office located in Udhana. While the exact cause of the blaze remains under investigation, initial reports suggest it originated in the godown housing electricity meters, cables, and other related materials.

The possibility of the fire being sparked by an electrical malfunction within one of the meters is being explored by authorities. The intensity of the blaze quickly spread within the godown, prompting a swift response from the fire department.

Firefighters raced to the scene, deploying multiple fire tenders to combat the inferno. However, despite their efforts, it took over two arduous hours for the firefighters to successfully gain control over the flames, highlighting the magnitude of the situation.

The incident has sparked concerns among local residents and business owners, raising questions about the safety protocols and infrastructure maintenance within such vital establishments.

As investigations into the cause of the fire continue, authorities remain vigilant, emphasizing the importance of preemptive measures to mitigate the risk of similar incidents in the future.

The DGVCL management has assured the public of their commitment to assess and enhance safety measures across all their facilities, prioritizing the well-being of their employees and the surrounding community.

In the wake of this alarming event, local authorities urge residents to remain vigilant and report any potential hazards promptly, underscoring the collective responsibility towards maintaining public safety and preventing such catastrophic occurrences.
