Surat : Residents of Dhoran Pardi village in Kamrej taluka in Surat are living in fear after a leopard family, including the mother and three cubs, was spotted in the bushes. This sighting has heightened anxiety among locals, especially with the knowledge that leopards frequently roam freely during night hours.

The presence of leopards in the region is not new. The forest area of Surat district is home to a large population of these wild cats. However, their occasional ventures towards human settlements in search of prey, often targeting domestic animals like dogs, have caused alarm among villagers.

In the recent incident, a villager named Dehurbhai Mer was sitting in his car with friends when they heard the roaring sound of an animal. Peering out the window, they were shocked to see a leopard with two cubs. Dehurbhai managed to capture this rare sight on his mobile camera. Thankfully, the leopard family did not harm anyone and quickly retreated into the bushes upon seeing humans.

This incident comes just days after another leopard met a tragic fate on the National Highway near Dhoran Pardi. The animal was crossing the highway when it was hit by a speeding vehicle, succumbing to its injuries.

These events highlight the growing conflict between humans and wildlife in the region. While leopards play a vital role in maintaining the ecological balance, their presence near human settlements poses a potential threat to both humans and livestock.

Authorities are taking steps to mitigate the situation. Increased patrols and awareness campaigns are being implemented to educate villagers about coexisting with wildlife safely. Additionally, efforts are underway to provide alternative sources of food for leopards, reducing their dependence on hunting domestic animals.

While the leopard sighting in Dhoran Pardi has caused fear among residents, it also serves as a reminder of the need for a balanced approach to wildlife management.
