Surat: Employee Arrested for Rs.1.20 Crore Blackmail and Data Theft

Surat | Gujarat — Varachha police arrested Rahul Ragde for blackmailing the owner of a tour and travel company and demanding a ransom of ₹ 1.20 crore.  Rahul Ragde has been working in the complainant’s company for the past two and a half years.  It has been revealed that he committed a large swindle by winning the owner’s trust and then squandering it.

According to the information received, the accused Rahul Ragde secretly took critical and sensitive client data while working for the organization.  This data was intended to be exploited against the company’s interests.  Aside from this, he had performed another terrible deed.  The accused had also secretly recorded a video of a female employee at the office changing clothing.

Rahul Ragde began blackmailing the company’s owner by using both of these things: stolen crucial customer data and a private film of a female employee.  The suspects sought a ransom of ₹ 1.20 crore from the owner.  If the owner would not pay the requested sum, he threatened to expose the data and make the video viral.  Tired of being blackmailed and realizing the gravity of the situation, the company’s owner contacted the Varachha police.  Considering the gravity of the situation, the Varachha police responded immediately.  The police detained Rahul Ragde based on technical monitoring and other evidence.

The Varachha police have formally arrested Rahul Ragde and are pursuing legal action against him.  The authorities are currently conducting an investigation to recover Rahul Ragde’s stolen data and the video used in the blackmail.  This incidence of fraud and blackmail involving the company’s owner has caused a stir in Surat’s business community and prompted severe concerns about employee trust. 

The police stated that employees of any organization should not do such activities by abusing confidence, and that anyone who is a victim of blackmail should call the police immediately.
