Surat Diamond Magnate Govind Dholakia Among BJP’s Rajya Sabha Nominees
This is first time that the diamond industry in Surat has received the honor of representing Gujarat in the Rajya Sabha. Dholakia had donated Rs 11 crore in the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya .
Surat : The BJP on Wednesday released another list of Rajya Sabha candidates nominating Govind Dholakia founder chairman of the Surat-based Shree Ramkrishna Export (SRK), BJP National president JP Nadda, Mayank Nayak and Dr. Jashvansinh Parmar from Gujarat.
This is first time that the diamond industry in Surat has received the honor of representing Gujarat in the Rajya Sabha. Dholakia had donated Rs 11 crore in the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya .
Dholakia, born on Novmeber 7, 1947 in the remote village of Dudhala in Gujarat had a humble upbringing. At the age of 17, Dholakia moved to Surat to work as diamond cutter and polisher. He rented room of 10×15 feet for Rs 45 per month and started working from there. He named his small unit as Shree Ramkrishna (SRK) and started dealing with Hirabhai Vadiwala who used to deal in rough diamonds.
This is how he started dealing in rough diamonds for Rs 500 and today he owns Rs 4,800 crore worth of company in Surat with business offices spread across New York, Dubai, Antwerp, Hong Kong etc.
