Surat BJP president lodges complaint against STM’s member for demanding Rs 1 lakh donation in party’s name

Surat (Gujarat) [India], March 05: Niranjan Jhanjmera, President of the Surat City BJP, has filed a complaint against Dinesh Mithalal Rathod (Jain), a member of the managing committee of Surat Textile Market (STM), on charges of fraud and defamation for circulating a Whatsapp message among members demanding a donation of Rs 1 lakh to the BJP.

Over 1,033 shop owners at STM were alarmed by a Whatsapp message from a managing committee member asking a Rs 1 lakh donation to the BJP. Jain informed business owners via Whatsapp that they needed to deposit Rs 5 lakh at the office for the lease payment, which included a Rs 1 lakh donation to the BJP.

In the message, Jain mentioned that the donation to the BJP is covered under the 80GGB and the traders can claim the deduction.

Jhanjmera filed a complaint with the city police demanding strict legal action against Dinesh Jain for defaming the BJP party in the name of donation from the shop owners. He (Jhanjmera) was not given any authority from the party to raise donations from the textile traders and he was trying to commit a huge fraud.

The STM located on Ring Road is constructed on the land admeasuring 24,435 belonging to the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC). The land was given on 50-year lease period, which expired last year. Last year, the ruling BJP renewed the lease for 99 years for Rs 127 crore.
