Surat : The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) General Secretary Pravin Khandelwal has made bold projections regarding the trajectory of social commerce in India, stating that it is on the brink of a transformative surge in the upcoming five years.

During a seminar titled ‘Digital Business Growth on WhatsApp, GST, and FSSAI’ held by the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) in Surat, Khandelwal emphasized the immense potential of social commerce, forecasting that it will overshadow e-commerce giants such as Amazon and Flipkart.

At present, traders are generating approximately $8 billion in sales annually through social commerce platforms. Khandelwal anticipates an exponential surge, estimating that this figure will skyrocket to an astounding $85 billion by the year 2027. This meteoric rise signifies a paradigm shift in consumer behavior and the evolving landscape of retail and trade in the country.

Encouraging merchants and traders to capitalize on this burgeoning trend, Khandelwal urged them to harness the power of social commerce to amplify their business growth. He emphasized the imperative role played by internet infrastructure, technology, effective communication, networking, and streamlined logistics in ensuring the success of businesses in the contemporary market.

CAIT has set an ambitious goal of enrolling 10,000 traders onto social commerce platforms, underscoring the organization’s commitment to facilitating the adoption of this innovative approach among businesses across India. Social commerce amalgamates the convenience of online shopping with the personalized touch of social interactions, creating an engaging and interactive shopping experience for consumers.

The penetration of social commerce in India has already demonstrated its ability to provide numerous benefits to traders. It enables direct engagement with customers, facilitates targeted marketing, and empowers smaller businesses and individual entrepreneurs to reach a wider audience without the substantial infrastructure required for traditional retail. Additionally, the seamless integration of payment gateways and logistics services within these platforms further streamlines the entire transaction process, enhancing efficiency and customer satisfaction.

“As India strides forward into a digital era, the burgeoning realm of social commerce is poised to redefine the retail landscape, offering unparalleled opportunities for traders to expand their reach and augment their businesses through innovative and interactive means” said Khandelwal.
