Ahmedabad : With the 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit just around the corner, Ahmedabad Airport is experiencing an unprecedented surge in traffic, with VVIP movement and charter flights skyrocketing over 100% above its usual capacity. This surge, while showcasing the summit’s allure, has unfortunately led to inconveniences for regular passengers, who are now advised to arrive 3-4 hours ahead of their departure times.
“We’ve seen a remarkable increase in the number of charter planes landing in the past few days,” said a spokesperson for the Ahmedabad Airport Authority. “From the usual 50 per day, we’re now exceeding 120, which has made it necessary to prioritize VVIP movement and implement stricter regulations for regular flights.”
The advisory issued by the airport authority asks passengers flying between January 9th and 12th to arrive at least 3 hours before their scheduled departure. This impact extends beyond Ahmedabad, with Surat, Vadodara, and Rajkot airports also on standby for parking and flight diversions.
But it’s not just domestic flights feeling the heat. International charter planes, carrying dignitaries for the summit, pose a unique challenge. “In most cases, these planes return to their bases after dropping off passengers,” explained the spokesperson. “However, for international arrivals, the planes often need to remain parked until the dignitaries depart from the city, further restricting available space.”
While the inconvenience to regular passengers is undeniable, there’s no doubt that the summit is generating immense buzz. As one excited local businessman put it, “It’s a bit chaotic at the airport, but seeing all this activity also fills you with optimism. It’s a sign that Gujarat is truly on the global map, and that’s something to be proud of.”
