Surat, Gujarat – The 7th edition of the Yarn Expo 2025, organized by the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) and the Southern Gujarat Chamber Trade and Industries Development Center, has seen a phenomenal response, drawing more than 14,730 buyers and visitors in just two days. Held in Surat, the textile hub of India, the expo is showcasing the latest trends in yarns—from eco-friendly bamboo yarn to high-tech carbon fiber varieties.

International buyers from countries including Switzerland, Czech Republic, and Bangladesh have not only explored the diverse range of yarns but also placed substantial orders with Indian manufacturers. The expo has become a pivotal platform for both domestic and global stakeholders to engage with Surat’s evolving textile ecosystem.

“Yarn is the thread of transformation,” said SGCCI president Nikhil Madrasi. “What was once a basic weaving component is now the cornerstone of innovation in fashion and industrial textiles. From viscose yarns resembling silk to technical yarns for drones, the progress is evident under one roof.”

Chairman of Yarn Expo, Girdhar Gopal Mundada, emphasized the variety on display. “We’ve presented everything from 100% recycled polyester and fancy filament yarns to the latest bi-component functional yarns. The buyers are amazed by the range and quality,” he said.

Eco-consciousness is also a key theme this year. In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s push for bamboo cultivation, several stalls are featuring yarn made from bamboo pulp. This environmentally friendly innovation involves fermenting bamboo to create pulp, which is then spun into durable and stylish yarn.

Adding to the innovation, yarns crafted from materials used in electric vehicles, drones, and sports gear like badminton rackets are being showcased—signaling a major leap into technical textiles.

The industry is also evolving digitally. Shlok Maheshwari, MD of Yarnbiz, remarked, “Just like Zomato and Swiggy have transformed food delivery, our online platform has revolutionized yarn shopping. Yarn is now just a click away, complete with modern packaging and fast logistics.”

A unique highlight is the daily fashion show, which offers visitors a first-hand look at garments made from the yarns displayed. Karishma Dhankani of Righan Fashions stated, “Weavers and buyers are more inspired when they see the yarn as a finished product. The beachwear and Goa-themed show on Sunday is set to be a major crowd-puller.”
