SGCCI Hosts Session on Social Media Use Among Youth

Former Gujarat DGP Ajay Tomar highlights rising social media usage among teenagers and calls for time management and digital discipline.

Surat | Gujarat —- The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI)  organized a session on ‘Decoding Today’s Youth – How to Handle Social Media Overview’ where Ajay Tomar (Joint President of Adani Group and Group Head – Cadre Excellence and Leadership Development and retired Director General of Police (IPS – 1989) of Gujarat Cadre) provided detailed guidance on the use of social media among the youth.

SGCCI president Nikhil Madrasi said that in today’s digital era, social media has become an important part of the lives of the youth. The use of social media is increasing rapidly among the youth, hence this program was organized to create awareness about its proper and balanced use.

Former SGCCI president Rupin Pachchigar said that technology and digital platforms have become an integral part of life today. has gone, but understanding the challenges associated with it and getting proper guidance is equally important.

Ajay Tomar said that according to a research in the year 2023, a person used to spend an average of two and a half hours on social media on mobile phones every day. This figure is shocking for teenagers and students, they used to spend an average of seven to eight hours on social media every day. This report came in the year 2023, after which it has increased every year. Considering this, an average person spends seven years of his life on social media. If a person is 80 years old, he will spend eight hours, if he is 90 years old, he will spend 9 hours and a person of 100 years old will spend an average of 10 years of his life on social media on mobile phones. Surat is a city of industries, if a person uses these years properly, he can create a good business.

He said that social media has become an important medium of information, learning opportunities and global connection for the youth. Social media as a powerful tool of connectivity Media has emerged, but its excess can also have a negative impact on a person’s behavior, attention and lifestyle, hence he encouraged the youth to set time limits while using social media, adopt a digital detox and be more active in real life.

Tomar stressed on the need to provide proper guidance to students, stating that the role of parents and teachers is also important regarding the use of social media. He said that the family and educational institutions will also have to provide proper guidance to the youth and direct their energy and time towards constructive activities. He added that teaching the youth proper time management has become an important need of today.
