SURAT :  Terming it a transformative roadmap for Gujarat’s economic future, the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) has strongly welcomed the state government’s newly announced industrial policy, describing it as one of the most progressive and industry-friendly frameworks introduced in recent years.

SGCCI President Ashok Jirawala expressed gratitude to Bhupendra Patel and Harsh Sanghavi for introducing reforms aimed at accelerating industrial growth, attracting global investment, and strengthening Gujarat’s position as a leading manufacturing destination.

Calling the policy a “historic milestone,” Jirawala said the reforms address long-standing industry demands while creating fresh opportunities for businesses of all sizes.

“The reduction of taluka classifications from three categories to just two—Developing and Developed—is a highly practical step that will simplify administrative processes and encourage balanced industrial growth across regions,” he said. “Aligning the MSME definition with the revised norms of the Central Government will also help Gujarat’s small and medium enterprises become more competitive nationally.”

One of the most significant features of the policy, according to SGCCI, is the universal subsidy framework covering projects ranging from micro enterprises to ultra-mega industries. Capital, interest and power subsidies have been extended across categories, while eligible capital subsidies for micro enterprises are proposed to be released within a year.

“This decision will provide critical support to entrepreneurs facing working capital challenges and encourage fresh investments across sectors,” Jirawala noted.

The policy places special emphasis on emerging sectors such as green energy, semiconductors, and e-mobility, which SGCCI believes will help Gujarat emerge as a global manufacturing hub in future-oriented industries.

Highlighting the startup ecosystem, Jirawala welcomed the provision of a monthly subsistence allowance of ₹25,000 for startups and ₹30,000 for women-led ventures. Additional seed support of up to ₹40 lakh for social-impact startups was described as a major boost for innovation and entrepreneurship among youth.

“The government has demonstrated its commitment not only to industrial expansion but also to innovation and sustainable development,” he said.

SGCCI also praised incentives for industrial parks, research and development facilities, wastewater recycling, Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) plants, and cleaner production technologies. Subsidies of up to ₹50 crore for industrial infrastructure and R&D projects, along with environmental incentives, are expected to strengthen Gujarat’s industrial ecosystem while promoting responsible growth.

Expressing confidence in the policy’s long-term impact, Jirawala said, “These reforms will attract unprecedented global investments, generate employment, and open a new golden chapter in Gujarat’s industrial development. The business community of South Gujarat fully supports this visionary initiative.”
