Seven Dead in Four Road Mishaps Across Gujarat

A horrific accident took place on the Ahmedabad-Vadodara Express Highway near Nadiad in the wee hours of Wednesday morning near Bilodara Bridge. A car passing through the highway suddenly burst its tyre, jumped the divider and rammed into the opposite side of the truck. In this incident, the car was completely overturned and damaged. A woman and two men in the car died. While two people were seriously injured.

Vadodara : About seven people died in four separate incidents of road mishap in Gujarat on Wednesday. Three people died and two others–all from Surat–sustained serious injuries after the tyre of a car going full speed bursted on the Ahmedabad-Vadodara Express Highway near Nadiad and it collided with a truck. While two people have been injured. The accident caused a traffic jam of approximately 15 kilometers on the NH-48.

The deceased have been identified as Dalpatbhai Chamnaji Purohit, 38, Subhadhidevi Chamnaji Purohit,71, and Dinesh Prabharam Purohit, 41–all residents of Varachha area in Surat. 

As soon as the accident was reported, the Nadiad Rural Police and Express Highway Patrol team reached the spot and the police made efforts to reveal the identities of the deceased. At the same time, the process of recording the statements of the injured persons was started. The deceased include one woman and two men. All the bodies have been taken to Nadiad Civil Hospital for post-mortem.

Praveensinh Rathod, an eyewitness said that after hearing the noise late at night, he immediately reached the express highway. There was a headon collision between the truck and the car. He along with other people rushed to rescue the people trapped in the car. Three dead bodies were taken out from the car, while two injured were shifted to the nearby hospital for threatment. 

Rajendra Pandey, Manager of the Maintenance Department of the Express Highway, said that the accident occurred on the Ahmedabad-Vadodara lane. After this, the highway was closed for some time to control the jam on both sides. This caused a traffic jam of approximately 15 kilometers. The truck involved in the accident did not start for a long time, which caused a traffic jam on the other side of the lane. 

Another accident occurred between two bikes in Toyani village of Devgadh Baria taluka. Three youths riding one bike were seriously injured, one of whom died on the spot while two other youths died during treatment, while three people riding the other bike were injured and have been admitted to the hospital for treatment.

The third accident took place on the Bagodara-Vataman highway. More than 10 passengers were injured when a luxury bus and a truck of a private company collided near Tarapur intersection. According to information received about this accident, the driver of a private luxury bus going from Surat to Junagadh was hit by a truck going in front of him when the bus suddenly hit the back of the truck. In which about 10 people were injured. It is reported that 6 people have sustained serious injuries.

The fourth incident of accident has come to light from Surat. A worker was crossing the highway near Kamrej Sugar on the National Highway passing through the limits of Navi Pardi village in Kamrej taluka of Surat. Meanwhile, an unknown vehicle coming at full speed hit the pedestrian. Due to which the pedestrian was thrown on the highway and died on the spot due to serious injuries. The unknown vehicle driver fled after causing the accident.

On receiving information about the incident, the Surat District NHAI Department immediately rushed to the spot. It is worth mentioning that vehicles running at full speed are frequently causing such accidents in Surat district and are causing deaths of innocent pedestrians.
