PM JANMAN: Gujarat Initiatives Enhance Tribal Welfare
Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, approved Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM JANMAN) in November 2023
Gandhinagar : Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, various departments of the Gujarat government have launched significant initiatives under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM JANMAN) to address the critical needs and improve facilities for families living in the tribal regions of Gujarat. The campaign has granted housing assistance to 7,123 beneficiaries through Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Additionally, Under PM Jan-Dhan Yojana, bank accounts have been opened for 12,229 tribal people.
The campaign will also see the establishment of 39 Multipurpose Centers, aiming to boost community engagement and economic development in tribal villages across Gujarat. The Government of India has sanctioned ₹23.40 crore for this initiative. Notably, the Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, approved Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM JANMAN) in November 2023. This initiative aims to uplift the socio-economic conditions of India’s tribal communities, focusing on the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG). With a substantial budget of ₹24000 crores, PM JANMAN is set to drive 11 key operations through 9 central government ministries.
Anganwadis and Mobile Medical Units for Tribal Areas
The Government of India has approved the construction of 67 new Anganwadis for 67 tribal Faliyas/villages to address existing facility gaps. Additionally, 17 mobile medical units have been deployed from January 2024 to enhance health services in remote tribal regions.
Education, Electricity, and Water for Tribal Areas
Under PM JANMAN, the Ministry of Education has approved 11 new hostels to support the educational development of tribal children. Clean drinking water has been provided to 2,803 tribal families in remote and upland areas, while 6,473 tribal families have received electricity connections.
Additional Achievements Under PM JANMAN Abhiyan
- The Government of India has approved the establishment of 21 Van Dhan Vikas Kendras to enhance income in tribal villages by promoting the sale of Forestry by-products and traditional items.
- Kisan Credit Cards have been issued to 1,051 tribal farmers.
- Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) has benefited 466 women from the tribal community.
- 2,998 Scheduled Tribe (ST) certificates have been granted to tribal individuals.
- • 14,827 tribal families have received ration cards.
