Mumbai | Maharashtra —- The Okavango Diamond Company (ODC) of Botswana has wrapped up a highly successful rough diamond viewing session at the India Diamond Trading Centre (IDTC) inside Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB). The session attracted participation from more than 94 companies and 209 prospective buyers, marking one of ODC’s most encouraging engagements in India to date.

According to ODC, the enthusiasm of Indian diamantaires underlined the country’s crucial role in the global diamond supply chain. Participants had the opportunity to view a wide range of rough stones sourced from Botswana.

Industry experts said such viewing sessions provide Indian manufacturers with greater transparency and direct access to mining companies, helping streamline trade.

Mehul Shah, Vice President of Bharat Diamond Bourse and Director of IDTC, said the event demonstrated the importance of direct engagement between miners and manufacturers. “We just witnessed a remarkable response from participants for the ODC viewing session in IDTC and this perhaps would motivate a greater number of mining entities from across the world to make IDTC an important platform for viewing rough diamonds,” Shah said.

He added that direct viewing sessions pave the way for direct sales to Indian manufacturers. “This helps miners like ODC get the best value for their diamonds while offering our manufacturers assured supplies,” he said.

The success of the session is expected to encourage more global mining entities to use IDTC’s secure facilities at BDB for future viewings, strengthening Mumbai’s position as a global hub for diamond trading.
