Daman : For over three decades, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) has been a pioneering force in fashion education. Since its establishment in 1986, NIFT has focused on building a strong foundation in fashion education, with courses in fashion design, textile design, and fashion management.

The academic offerings are diverse and comprehensive, including undergraduate and postgraduate programs spread across its network of 19 campuses. The academia family comprises a diverse and vibrant community of over 680 faculty members, 13,000 students, and 40,000 alumni, all united by a passion for fashion education and excellence. The dynamic curriculum of NIFT is driven by industry inputs ensuring that students remain at the forefront of trends.

NIFT Daman, despite being a relatively new campus, has already made a significant impact. As the 18th campus in the NIFT network started in 2022, it is aligned with the goals of its senior counterpart campuses. NIFT’s 40-year legacy of shaping India’s fashion landscape has met the 3-year milestone of NIFT Daman, a campus that embodies the spirit of creativity.

In 2023, Daman successfully organized the G-20 University Connect, a prestigious event held as part of India’s presidency of the G-20. The students and faculty were also invited to attend the grand finale at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi, where they had the opportunity to hear from the Prime Minister himself. Campus students participated in Bharat Tex 2024, a mega textile exhibition that showcased India as a premier destination for textile sourcing.

This experience provided students with valuable exposure to the industry and helped them develop their skills and knowledge. To ensure inclusiveness, Daman Campus has been reaching out to Government schools and colleges in all the three districts of Dadra Nagar Haveli Daman and Diu. They provide admission related entrance orientation to the students. The Union territory administrator Praful Patel has taken special initiatives to get higher education access for the students from the tribal district of Dadra.

Being a premier higher education, they have a huge commitment for inclusiveness by nurturing talent through scholarship schemes like Sarthak and Udan, which support students in educational and international exchange programs.

The grassroots engagement initiatives by looping local artisans and craft cluster collaborations have helped to preserve heritage crafts and to promote sustainable design practices.

The Textile and fashion industry connections are blended through classroom projects, internships, and partnerships with Industries, governmental bodies, and the private sector.

These collaborations shape textile design and craft preservation efforts, ensuring that students are equipped with the skills and knowledge required to succeed in the industry. As NIFT celebrates its 40th foundation day, its Daman Campus marks three years of excellence to illuminate the future of fashion education for generations to come.
